Christmas market and fair in Zaragoza

Share:
December is one of the most hectic months for me, so, I was looking forward to this trip to Zaragoza. I went there with my son and my husband. It is only a 3-hour drive from Barcelona, so, perfect for a long weekend. These are the things we enjoyed the most:

First, the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar (Spanish: Catedral-Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar) is located in the old part of the city on the Ebro river bank. It was the first church dedicated to Mary in history. We loved it! It is just breathtaking, day or night. It is always open and free of charge. You can climb one of the towers to enjoy the view! A must visit in Zaragoza.

Second, the Christmas market and funfair. Perfect for getting you in the mood for Christmas. You can browse the beautifully-decorated wooden stalls with local handicrafts, regional cheese and other treats. My favourite stall was owned by a couple selling traditional Russian dolls. Enjoy the churros con chocolate, mulled wine, Belgian waffles, roasted potatoes and chestnuts, right before the basilica. It’s great during the day, but it’s stunning at night, so festive with the Christmas lights. There’s a huge Belén or nativity scene, I think it’s the biggest in Spain.
We loved the Ferris wheel for toddlers, and the carousel, both made of wood, really charming! There were also an ice-skating rink, an ice slide and toy ponies that my son enjoyed a lot.

We are looking forward to visiting Zaragoza again, a place with good people, good architecture, good vibes! Thank you to my sister and to the Zaragoza Tourist Information Office for this stay.
